What CPM advertising is

CPM (cost per mille) means you pay a fixed amount for every 1,000 times your ad is shown, whether or not anyone clicks. It is the pricing model for reach: brand exposure, audience building, retargeting and offer testing where the landing page does the converting. The alternative models — CPC and CPA — move risk from the advertiser to the network and cost more per impression.

How a CPM campaign works

  1. Pick your targetingGEO, device, OS, browser, language, carrier, connection type and, optionally, a source whitelist.
  2. Set a CPM bidBid per 1,000 impressions at or above the GEO minimum; SmartCPM lowers your effective bid to just above the next competitor.
  3. Your ads are servedImpressions are delivered across the Reacheffect publisher network in a real-time auction.
  4. Improve performanceAdjust bids, frequency and sources from live statistics; block sources that do not convert.

Who CPM is for — and when it isn't

CPM suits advertisers who want maximum reach quickly, whose funnel benefits from volume, who test several GEOs at once, or who run top-of-funnel campaigns. It is a weaker choice when the offer converts only on high-intent clicks, or when there is no conversion tracking to tell good impressions from bad.

  • No performance guarantee per impression. You pay for delivery; results depend on your landing page and optimization.
  • Frequency matters. Without caps, CPM spend concentrates on heavy users; the platform defaults to one impression per user per 24 hours.

CPM ad network FAQ

What is a CPM ad network?

A network that connects advertisers and publishers and prices delivery per 1,000 impressions: advertisers bid CPM, publishers are paid on eCPM.

Is CPM suitable for performance marketing?

Yes, for testing, scaling and retargeting, provided conversions are tracked with a postback so sources can be optimized.

What is a reasonable CPM rate?

It depends on GEO and format. Tier-1 GEOs clear around $1 for popunder and banner; tier-2/3 GEOs from $0.22. The current minimums are listed above with the snapshot date.

Are creatives necessary for CPM campaigns?

Popunder and direct-click campaigns need only a URL. Banner and video campaigns need creatives.

Can I run CPM and CPC campaigns at the same time?

Yes. Many advertisers run popunder on CPM and push on CPC to balance reach and performance.
