How to set up an S2S postback

A postback is a request your server (or your tracker) sends to Reacheffect when a visitor converts, carrying the click ID the visitor arrived with. Because nothing runs in the visitor's browser, ad blockers and cookie settings cannot drop it. Conversions appear as a column in Statistics, by campaign, ad, GEO and source.

1. Create a conversion type

Open Tracking in the sidebar, on the Conversion Tracking tab. Each conversion type has a letter (A, B, C…) and a name you choose: Sale, Signup, Deposit. Switch it Active. Leave Allow repeats off for one-off events; tick it for revshare or rebill events where the same click keeps paying, otherwise only one conversion per click within 24 hours is counted.

2. Pass the click ID to your landing page

Add ?cid={tracking} to the destination URL of every ad. {tracking} is replaced by a unique click ID on every click:

Landing page: https://example.com
New landing page:  https://example.com?cid={tracking}

Your page stores the cid it receives and keeps it with the visitor's session or order until the conversion happens. If a tracker sits between the ad and the landing page, the tracker stores it instead; see the tracker guides below.

3. Call the conversion URL

Click More Info on the conversion type. The dialog shows your conversion URL with your account ID and the type letter already filled in; click it to copy. Its parameters are:

ParameterRequiredValue
pidYesYour account ID (pre-filled)
cidYesThe stored click ID
conv_typeYesThe letter of the conversion type
amountNoRevenue for the conversion, to fill the revenue columns in reports

Your server calls that URL the moment the conversion happens. The dialog also offers a JavaScript alternative (a tracking script on the landing page and a conversion script on the thank-you page) for sites where a server call is impossible; it depends on the visitor's browser, so use the server call whenever you can.

4. Test and troubleshoot

Fire one test conversion and check that it appears in Statistics before scaling. The Rejected Postbacks tab lists every refused call with its reason:

ReasonFix
Unknown or expired click IDPass {tracking} through unchanged and store it for the whole funnel
DuplicateExpected for one-off events; tick Allow repeats for recurring ones
Inactive conversion typeActivate the letter on the Conversion Tracking tab
Wrong account IDCopy the URL from the More Info dialog instead of typing it

Trackers: Voluum, Keitaro, Binom, RedTrack, BeMob.
